Team RWB Austin Tri Camp Volunteers!

Thank you for wanting to volunteer as part of the 2017 Team RWB Austin Tri Camp! The success of this camp is dependent upon community involvement, and your willingness to support these athletes is greatly appreciated.

Because we have a growing group of people wanting to volunteer, and there is unfortunately a limit to the number of volunteers we can accept, we have established a "hierarchy" of volunteer selection, to spread the volunteer opportunities. To that end, volunteer slots (other than the core group here in the Austin area) will be open, in order of priority, to 1) last year's athletes; 2) past years' athletes and other local area applicants interested in volunteering for the first time; and 3) previous volunteers, if needs still exist.

You may wish to read the schedule before signing up, so you have a better idea of what specific roles are needed, and when. (see the schedule from last year here).

A few important notes first:

1. Completing the application does NOT guarantee you one of the volunteer slots.

2. If you are applying as an athlete, do NOT apply as a volunteer. The selection processes run concurrently, and slots in both cases are limited.

3. All transportation and lodging expenses are the responsibility of the volunteers. (Hotel information is below.)
Meals during the camp will be provided by Team RWB, though volunteers may be asked to pay a small portion.

We require all volunteers to complete a questionnaire so that we can be sure we have volunteers to fill all needed roles at camp. It is incumbent upon us to provide the best camp experience for our attendees, so as coordinators we must ensure that all camp volunteer needs are fulfilled appropriately.

PLEASE do NOT "just happen" to be here for the camp. You will be politely asked to leave...at least the first time.

First and foremost, recognize that as a volunteer, you are here to support the camp athletes. To that end, please note the following requirements:

1. As a requirement for volunteering you have to respond to the emails from our camp management team. This is a HUGE coordination issue. If you do not respond timely, you will get uninvited and replaced with someone more responsive.
2. You have to be able to work the entire camp. People arriving a day late or leaving a day early really makes it difficult on a crew already stretched thin. You don't necessarily need to be here for athlete check in Thursday evening, unless you are involved in athlete transportation or knowledgeable about bike assembly, or for the dinner on Sunday. But it is a requirement that you are present before the first session Friday morning through the triathlon completion and cleanup on Sunday.
3. Note that Volunteers will also be required to sign a Liability Release prior to participating in the camp. If you are selected as a volunteer, the waiver will be emailed to you.
4. You have to be willing to suspend your training for the duration of the camp. We need people that are focused on working for the participants at the camp. There may be times when you can do your workout, but ONLY if our tasks are done or it is a down time for the athletes.
5. If we have athletes requiring special/additional assistance, those assignments will be made by the camp coordinators team in advance, so please do not assume you will be in that role. Note that identifying on the questionnaire any special skills you possess will definitely assist us in meeting the needs of the athletes. All volunteers will be given specific assignments and responsibilities by the Volunteer Coordinator, based upon your expertise and experience, and managed through Logistics Captains. Only if time is available will you be able to participate in any activities.

Keep in mind your role as a volunteer - you are NOT here to be coaching, or soliciting athletes for coaching, nor are you to interrupt the instruction from the coaches and pros. This camp is for the ATHLETES, and our function is to support that goal.

Where we need help:

Coach Derick will be leading the training sessions along with professional triathletes and assistant coaches. However, there will be opportunities for volunteers to learn as well. Whether you are an experienced triathlete, or individually as a swimmer, cyclist or runner, Team RWB may need your assistance - multiple skills are needed. But please remember, our primary responsibility is to support the athletes.
There are a number of tasks that will need to be completed multiple times during the camp, some not so glamorous:

How To Be Part of The Camp

We have filled our volunteer roster for the 2017 camp. If you are interested in volunteering in future Team RWB camps, please talk with your Team RWB Chapter Captains or Regional Directors for those opportunities.

Hotel Reservations

The link to the Camp host hotel is to the right. Team Red, White and Blue has negotiated a group rate at the host hotel, the Marriott Courtyard, which is located just off IH-35, south of Parmer Lane.

We will be making reservations for the attendees, and the host hotel will set aside a block of rooms to be made available for the volunteers, should you desire to stay at the same hotel. You are not required to stay at the host hotel, as there are others very close which you may prefer.
Again, expenses are the obligation of the volunteer.

While this year's host hotel is the Marriott Courtyard at IH-35 and Parmer Lane (512-339-8374), there is also a nearby Fairfield Inn and Suites Austin North/Parmer Lane, 12536 N IH 35, Austin, TX 78753 (512.821.0376), and a SpringHill Suites Austin North/Parmer Lane 12520 North IH-35 Austin, TX 78753 (512-833-3100).
You can call those hotels directly and make your room reservation.

On behalf of the veterans/athletes, the camp staff and Team Red, White and Blue, thank you very much! We look forward to seeing you at the camp!
