Welcome, Athletes!

First, and most importantly, thank YOU veterans for your service, commitment and sacrifice. Thanks also to those civilian team members who contribute their support to these heroes. What you all do gives us the opportunity to have this camp, to give back to you!

Thank you as well for wanting to be a part of the 2017 Team Red, White and Blue Austin Tri Camp! The success of this camp depends as much on the athletes' desire to participate as it does on staff, volunteers and community involvement.

We are going to challenge you to learn (or advance your learning of) a fun and amazing sport that will invigorate you and help you grow. But understand this - your time here at tri camp is NOT just about you; you are expected to take home what you learn at this camp, and be the face of Team RWB triathlon (and Team RWB in general) in your community. You are accountable to your camp teammates, your local Team RWB chapters and to your Assistant Coaches at camp, who will follow your progress post-camp!
Rest assured, you will be given the knowledge here to move forward!

Here is the link to the Athlete Application. Once your chapter captain has submitted you as a candidate for this camp, the Regional Directors and RWB Leadership staff are the Team RWB points of contact for athlete approval. Once you have been approved for this camp and we receive your contact information, you will begin receiving communications directly from camp coordinators, so that you can be assured a great camp experience.

About the Camp

Conducted by Professional Coach Derick Williamson with the help of Pro Triathletes and Assistant Coaches, the 2017 Team RWB Austin Tri Camp is designed to help veterans and civilians alike learn and gain triathlon skills. Team RWB's vision is to transform the way veterans are re-integrated into society when they return from combat and exit their position in the Active Duty forces, Reserves or National Guard. We want to see veterans and local communities join forces to learn from each other. Our part in the execution of that mission is to get veterans involved in sports, which has been proven to be powerful in helping veterans (and non-veterans, for that matter) heal from wounds (visible or internal), cope with stress, involve themselves with others, and develop physical fitness that inspires personal growth in all areas of life.

Clinics: The camp will be a series of group clinics where professional triathlon coaches and pro triathletesteach the fundamentals of the three-pronged sport, as well as sports nutrition, flexibility and fitness, race strategies and goal setting.

Team RWB will also present a series of Leadership Development sessions during the camp. This information will assist you in your local team operations and development.

Equipment: If you already own the equipment, we will coordinate with you to bring your gear to camp with you, as needed. Team RWB will be equipping all attendees during the camp that do not already own the equipment, so that is not a concern.

Logistics: Team RWB will coordinate and cover all athlete expenses for the camp: lodging, food and travel. We will have logistics staff and volunteers on the ground, present to meet your needs while at the camp.

The Schedule: The camp will start off with arrivals and a welcome dinner on Thursday, clinics and training on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, a sprint triathlon Sunday (so athletes can put all their training into practice) a coach and pro panel dinner Sunday evening, and a final wrap-up and packing on Monday morning. The entire calendar can be viewed here.

Skills Needed: The only skills an attendeen needs to possess is the willingness and enthusiasm to attend the camp! Any experience running, biking and/or swimming experience is helpful but it is not required.

Team RWB Austin Tri Camp Athlete Information Form

So that we can ensure that we have made arrangements for all your camp needs, we will need to collect a bit of information from you. Once you have been approved as a camp participant, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire. Please complete it timely, particularly if there are any special needs we need to consider in the course of our planning.

Once we begin compiling the athlete list from the questionnaires, we will work to resolve any outstanding issues or needs.

Training Plans

Coach Derick will be providing a training plan which can be used at home by the athletes after the camp to continue their training. The plan includes both beginner and intermediate plans, as well as swim workouts, and will be available here after the completion of the camp.

USA Triathlon Membership

All athletes participating in the Team RWB Triathlon Camp are required to: 1) either possess a USAT membership, or we will purchase a one-day membership; and 2) sign a USAT waiver prior to participation. Many of you already have the USAT membership, and we will just need to confirm your membership numbers. If you are NOT registered with USAT, it would make sense to go ahead and do so, as it is required for all triathlon events. You can accomplish this at USA Triathlon's website, https://www.teamusa.org/usa-triathlon.
The waiver will be sent to you in advance and you will need to complete it prior to your arrival in Austin.

Refund Policy

As this camp is being sanctioned and insured by USA Triathlon, we are required to establish and identify a clinic refund policy. As such, because expenses are paid for the athletes by the Team Red, White and Blue organization, there are no refunds, regardless of weather or other risk factor.

On behalf of the camp staff, the volunteers, the Austin and Pflugerville communities and Team Red, White and Blue, again - thank you very much for your service, and we look forward to seeing you at the camp!
